There are no known cause of psoriasis and why it
occurs but according to many studies, it is caused by a defective gene. This is
believed to cause an abnormality in the immune system that causes the skin to
regenerate at an accelerated speed. This then causes the skin cells to pile on
top of each other. When this happens,
the skin surface becomes red, raised and it becomes itchy and thick. They are
then covered by white or silvery scales. This does not only occur on the scalp
but also on the other parts of the body like the nails, back and genital areas.
Although this is what researches believe, the real cause as to why they occur
is not for certain.
This scaly white or silver patch is usually inflamed.
They are formed in one area first but in severe cases, these patches will
spread behind the ears, neck and the back of the neck. They then form a thick
crust that is very itchy and picking or scratching on them will only make the
condition worse. In very severe cases, the flare-up of this condition may reach
the ear canal and may affect the hearing of the person with scalp psoriasis.
If you are suffering from this condition or if you
suspect that you have psoriasis on the scalp, have it checked by a
dermatologist as soon as possible. This way, inflammation or flare-ups can be
controlled immediately.
